Twist and Stripe: Black and White Op-Art Drawing

A square black and white drawing made of thick curving stripes, looping tubes and rounded shapes that fill the frame. A large striped oval tilts at the upper right, a wavy banded column runs down the right side, and scalloped checker-like arches sit along the bottom. The artist's signature and the year '16 appear at the lower left.

A stranger who wants black and white on a wall, but not a plain minimalist print, wants this. The stripes bend around looping tubes and ribbons until a flat two-colour drawing looks almost dimensional. It is busy enough to hold the eye for a long time, with open white space on the right to rest in. Most black and white abstracts are either sparse or a uniform pattern. This one has a large tilted striped oval, fan shapes, scalloped checkered arches and a wavy column, all in one square.
