Prints & Framing

Choose how it hangs

Every piece is printed to order by Fine Art America, in the size and material your wall needs: framed, canvas, metal, acrylic or wood. Here is what each one is, the papers and their weights, the frames and mats, and what you can choose, each shown finished on my own pieces: use the arrows to try another. On any piece's page, See it finished lets you try every print, frame and mat on that piece.

Framed Print

Ready to hang the day it arrives, matted and framed by FAA's framers.

  • Choose from more than 250 frames, in black, white, gold, silver, wood tones and colour.
  • One mat or two, in 12 colours, with the mat width you want.
  • Printed on your choice of eight papers (below).
  • Arrives with the hanging wire attached, plus hooks and nails.

Canvas Print

The texture of a painting, stretched over a wooden frame.

  • Glossy or matte canvas.
  • Gallery wrap on 1.5" stretcher bars, with the picture mirrored round the sides, or black or white sides.
  • Or a slimmer 5/8" museum wrap, or rolled canvas to stretch yourself.
  • Add a frame if you like; it looks finished without one.

Art Print

Just the print, to frame your own way.

  • Printed on your choice of eight papers, or on canvas.
  • A 1" white border on paper (2.5" on canvas) leaves room for framing.
  • Ships flat-rolled in a sturdy tube.

Metal Print

Colour printed onto aluminium, with a high gloss that makes it glow.

  • 1/16" aluminium, floated 3/4" off the wall on a wooden frame.
  • Light, rigid and water resistant: good for kitchens and bathrooms.
  • Arrives ready to hang.

Acrylic Print

Printed on the back of clear acrylic, so the picture sits under a deep, glassy surface.

  • 1/4" clear acrylic: the most depth of any print.
  • Hang it on a wire, or on four aluminium posts that hold it off the wall.
  • Arrives ready to hang.

Wood Print

Printed straight onto maple, for a warmer, rustic finish.

  • 3/4" thick maple: the wood's warmth comes through the lighter colours.
  • Arrives ready to hang.

Poster

The lightest way to have it, on archival paper.

  • Archival matte paper with a 1" white border.
  • Ships in a sturdy tube.

Tapestry

Soft, wall-sized fabric: 50" x 61", 68" x 80" or 88" x 104".

  • Hang it vertical or horizontal.

Papers and their weights

Framed prints, art prints and posters are printed on one of eight papers, all acid-free, with archival inks. Weight is in grams per square metre (gsm); thickness in mil (thousandths of an inch).

Questions about your print

Which print should I choose?

For most rooms, a framed print or a canvas. A framed print is the classic: matted, framed and ready to hang. Canvas has the texture of a painting and needs no frame. Metal and acrylic give the most colour and gloss and suit modern rooms; wood is warmer and more rustic.

Which paper is best?

Archival matte is FAA's usual choice: crisp, with no glare. For the deepest colour choose glossy; for a soft sheen, luster. For a heavy cotton fine-art paper, Picture Rag (300 gsm) or Somerset Velvet (255 gsm).

How big can I print it?

Each piece has its own largest size, set by how much detail the file holds. Many go to 48 or 72 inches on the long side. Every piece's page shows how large it prints, and you can see it on a wall at its real size before you buy.

Does it arrive ready to hang?

Framed, canvas, metal, acrylic and wood prints arrive ready to hang, with the hardware. Art prints and posters ship rolled in a tube, with a white border left for framing.

How long does it take?

Fine Art America prints and ships each order in 3 to 4 business days, then it travels to you.

Will the print fade?

The inks are archival and the papers and canvases acid-free, made to last for generations without fading.

Will the watermark be on my print?

No. The watermark on the website preview is only there online; your print never has it.

Is there a discount?

Yes. The Discount Club takes 25% off my part of each price, and 35% for designers and other professionals.
