Wall art by room
Wall art for the room it will live in
Before I made art, I photographed rooms for architects and builders. My job was to make a finished room look the way it feels to stand in it. I choose art the same way now: for the room first. Pick a room, and every piece that suits it hangs on its wall, at its real size, before you buy.

Choose a room
Each room shows the pieces chosen for it, hanging on its own wall.
Imagine it before you buy
- Start with the roomWide pieces for the wall over a sofa, tall ones for the space beside a door, quiet ones for the bedroom. Each room shows only what suits it.
- See it at its real sizeEvery piece hangs on a real wall, in photos of real rooms, at the size you would order. Try sizes from 12 to 72 inches and watch the wall change.
- Order the size the wall needsEach print is made to order by Fine Art America on canvas, metal, acrylic or paper, with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Sizing, the way a designer would
The rules I use, room by room.
- A long wallOver a seven-foot sofa, art should be about 56 to 63 inches wide: one large piece, or two or three hung 2 to 3 inches apart so they read as one.
- Living RoomA simple rule: choose art about two-thirds the width of the sofa, and hang it 8 to 10 inches above the back.
- BedroomOver a queen bed, a piece 40 to 48 inches wide sits well. Hang it 8 to 12 inches above the headboard.
- KitchenKeep art in a kitchen away from the cooktop and sink, and favour a print you can wipe, such as metal or acrylic.
- Home OfficeOver a desk, hang the centre of the art at about eye level when you are standing, around 57 to 60 inches from the floor.
- Entry & HallwayA tall, narrow piece suits the wall beside a door; a panorama or a row of pieces suits a long hallway.
