Lanterns in the Leaves, Pink and Orange Flower Study

Pink and orange tubular flowers with ruffled, open lips hang in two clusters, one in the lower left and one arcing across the upper right. Long, fine stamens with tiny tips trail from the blooms. The dark green leaves behind them are softly blurred, which makes the petals stand out. The whole surface has a swirled, painterly finish like oil paint.

Plenty of flower prints are pink, and plenty are pretty. This one is hot magenta and tangerine blooms that seem to glow against a dark, muted green. The long curved tubes, ruffled lips and hair-fine trailing stamens give the eye a path to follow, and the swirled, brush-like surface sits between photograph and painting. Someone wants it because the color stops them and the delicate drawing of the flowers keeps them looking. They don't need a reason beyond that.
