Better to Speak, Quote on a Garden Stone

A large, smooth, pale gray-pink rock sits in a garden bed among smaller reddish and gray stones, green leafy plants and grass. Across its face, in dark maroon script, is a quote attributed to Audre Lorde: 'When we speak we are afraid our words will not be heard or welcomed. But when we are silent, we are still afraid. So it is better to speak.' The image has a soft, painterly look.

Someone wants this piece because the words appear to belong to the stone. A garden boulder with a six-line Audre Lorde quote lettered across its face is a different thing from the usual quote print on a plain background. The muted gray, green and brown palette with maroon script stays quiet in a room, and the words reward a second reading. It suits a person who wants one sentence on the wall that says something, set in a natural scene instead of a graphic poster.
