Ember Crest, Winged Mask on Black

Contemporary Abstract & Mixed Media · horizontal

A symmetrical, mask-like figure with curling horns and sweeping wing shapes is centered on a black rectangle. Its marbled fill moves from orange and red at the center to blue, pink and turquoise at the edges. Blue cross-shaped forms extend below the face-like core and out to the sides. A wide, brushy, multicolored border with a thin red inner line frames the black panel.

A collector wants this piece for its mirrored, mask-like winged emblem. Marbled color glows against flat, deep black, like stained glass lit from behind. Most colorful abstracts spread their color across the whole canvas. Here the color gathers into one centered, ceremonial figure with a glowing orange-to-red heart. The black field gives the saturated blues, pinks and turquoise a graphic punch that stays bold from across a room and still rewards a close look at the swirled fills.
