Silver Thread - Black and White Water Splash

Contemporary Abstract & Mixed Media · vertical

A black-and-white image of a thin column of water splashing down into a dark pool. A bright burst of foam marks the point of impact, and a pale reflection stretches down through the lower half. Fine, wiry streaks of spray fan out around the stream and give it a brushed, painterly look. The scene is high in contrast, with glowing whites against deep charcoal and black, and it is framed by a thin black border.

A collector wants this piece for its glowing white thread of water against near-black, and for the fine, hair-like spray lines that fan out around it like brush or pen strokes. Many black-and-white water images are crisp photographs. This one is semi-abstract and painterly, so the splash reads as both a real frozen moment and a graphic drawing. The vertical reflection below gives it a strong central axis. The pull is visual and dramatic, and it needs no further reason.
