The Violet Well, Stone Well and Wooden Bucket
A circular well built of large, irregular stone blocks stands in a green grassy area. A wooden bucket with dark bands hangs from a thick rope at the upper right. Tufts of grass grow at the base of the well, and bare sandy ground fills the foreground. The whole scene has a painterly, swirled texture.
Someone wants this piece because the well is an object you recognise at once, and the surface keeps you looking. The stone blocks run from rust-brown to violet-grey, and the whole image is worked in swirling, thick-paint texture against bright green grass. It is a plain, familiar subject made rich in colour. It sits easily on a wall where a rustic or country scene is wanted but a flat, literal photograph would feel ordinary.
