Windows into the Wild, Blue Tile Frame and Black Plaque
A black plaque with white lettering is mounted on a gray cement wall and surrounded by a rectangular frame of blue, bumpy-edged tiles. The plaque text reads 'Windows into the Wild, Clay and Cement, 2002' and credits Methow Valley Elementary 6th Graders, artists Jim Neupert and Bruce Morrison, MVSTA, the Washington State Arts Commission and Methow Arts. The whole image has a swirling, painterly texture.
A collector wants this because the scene is simple but never sits still. A black plaque in a bright blue scalloped tile frame, set in rough gray cement, is a strong, graphic, symmetrical shape. A swirling, brushed-paint texture over the whole surface keeps it moving. Most blue-and-black wall art is either flat geometric abstraction or a plain photograph. This one has the calm layout of a frame within a frame and the energy of thick paint.
