Cobalt Jewel Wings, Blue Butterfly

A large blue butterfly with open wings is centered on a plain white background. The inner parts of the wings are rich cobalt blue, divided into rounded cells by pale pinkish veins. The outer edges are blush pink and beige, scattered with purple and indigo oval spots and a few olive-green accents near the top. The body is slim and teal-blue, with two thin curved antennae.

A collector wants this piece for its bold, jewel-like contrast. Saturated cobalt-blue wing cells sit against soft blush pink borders and a clean white ground. The butterfly is perfectly mirrored and easy to read at a glance, yet the marbled blue panels and pale vein lines reward a closer look. Most butterfly art is naturalistic or soft and muted. This one is graphic, vivid and calm, so it appeals to someone who wants a butterfly with strong blue color and a modern, decorative feel.
