Red Among the Green: Half-Timbered Pond Reflection

A still pond in the foreground reflects a red half-timbered building, a rustic wooden fence and a slender tree. Behind the water, a grassy bank and layers of dense green trees fill the middle of the scene under a pale gray sky. Leafy branches reach in from the upper right, and bright green grass edges the bottom of the image. The whole surface has a swirling, painterly texture that gives the foliage and water a stylized look.

A collector wants this piece for the single red half-timbered building glowing through a wall of olive and forest green, then repeated as broken red reflections in a still pond. The swirling, oil-like texture across the whole surface turns an ordinary rural scene into something quiet, rich and tactile. A diagonal split-rail fence leads the eye from the foreground grass to the red accent. Plenty of green landscapes exist, but few give the eye one warm point of rest.
