Sunburst Wings, Symmetrical Butterfly

Butterflies, Birds & Wildlife · vertical

A symmetrical butterfly with outstretched wings is shown against a plain white background. The wing edges are filled with swirling, glossy bands of red, orange, yellow and green. Large white oval and teardrop shapes are cut out of the wings, and a bright yellow band runs across the center near the slim body. Two long thin antennae rise from the top of the body.

Someone wants this butterfly over the many others because it is built like a graphic: perfectly mirrored wings of glossy, marbled red, orange, yellow and green, cut open with bold white oval and teardrop shapes. The white ground and large areas of negative space keep the saturated color crisp and airy. It reads as a butterfly at once, but it looks designed rather than naturalistic. Visual pleasure alone is reason enough to want it, because it is cheerful, warm and eye-catching.
