A Butterfly Cut Open With White, Its Wings Full of Liquid Color
Sunburst Wings is a mirror-symmetrical digital butterfly: glossy marbled red, orange, yellow and green wings opened up by bold white cutouts.
Choose your size, paper, canvas, metal or frame. Printed, shipped and guaranteed by Fine Art America.
Picture a butterfly facing you with its wings spread wide, perfectly matched left to right on a clean white ground. Before you notice any detail, you see the color: bright yellow, orange, deep red and green, glossy and glowing.
Then your eye catches the white. Large ovals, long teardrops and ring-like loops are cut right out of the wings. Together with the swirling color around them, they turn a familiar butterfly into something crisp, graphic and a little unexpected.

What Your Eye Finds, Piece by Piece
I'd start at the center. The brightest yellow runs in a horizontal band across the wings at the slim body, and it anchors the whole design. From there the color moves outward, and the eye follows it.
Inside the wing edges the color looks liquid. Smooth, marbled swirls of red, orange, yellow and green have a polished, glassy finish, with touches of amber, burgundy and teal. Where the color meets white, the edges turn sharp and clean.
The white cutouts work like veins and cells, and they leave a lot of open space. That space keeps the saturated color crisp and airy rather than heavy.
The perfect symmetry makes the butterfly feel still and poised. The upswept antennae and pointed wing tips then carry your eye up and out toward the corners.
What You'll See in This Piece
- Perfect mirror symmetry: the butterfly feels calm and balanced, and it works as a centered focal point.
- Bold white ovals, teardrops and loops cut into the wings: the butterfly reads as a graphic design, and the open space keeps it light.
- Glossy, marbled bands of yellow, orange, deep red and green: a warm, sunny palette that stands out on a wall.
- A bright yellow band across the middle: a luminous center that draws the eye in first.
- Smooth, liquid-looking swirls with crisp edges: a polished surface that rewards a closer look.
- Long, thin antennae and pointed wing tips: lines that lift the gaze upward and outward.
Where It Belongs
This is a vertical, centered piece on a plain white ground, so it suits light, clean walls. It adds a burst of warm color above a desk, in a hallway, or in a kitchen, sunroom, studio or child's room.
The mood is cheerful, playful and energetic. It makes sense as a single statement piece on a modest wall, where the symmetry and the color can stand on their own.
- This is for you if you want a butterfly that looks designed and graphic rather than naturalistic.
- This is for you if a wall in your home needs warm yellow, orange and red to brighten it.
- This is for you if you like crisp shapes and plenty of white space around saturated color.
- This is for you if you enjoy bright, cheerful art for its own sake, with no explanation needed.
