Liquid Stones: Swirled Pebbles in Blue and Amber

Contemporary Abstract & Mixed Media · horizontal

A tightly packed bed of rounded stones fills the whole frame in shades of brown, blue, tan, orange and gold. Swirling ripple patterns run over the stones and warp their shapes, so they look like they sit beneath moving water. The surface has the feel of thick, glossy oil paint, with fine curling ridges and marbled color. Dark brown gaps between the stones add depth, and a few bright amber and orange pebbles stand out against the cooler blues.

A collector wants this piece for the way ordinary pebbles are transformed. Packed river-stone shapes look as if they are seen through moving water, and their surfaces turn into marbled, glossy paint. It is a rare mix of recognisable stones and liquid swirl, in a jewel-toned palette of slate blue, burnt sienna, amber and deep brown. Warm orange and gold pebbles flash among the cooler blues. Pure visual richness is reason enough to choose it over other stone, pebble or abstract images.
