Warm Clouds Pressing on Cold Blue Peaks, One Red Building Below
The Quiet Weight of Clouds is a painterly winter mountain landscape where cream-and-peach sky meets slate-blue snow, and one rust-red building sets the scale.

Look at the top of the picture first. Thick clouds pile up above the mountains, and they glow in warm cream and peach. Sunlight breaks through the cloud banks at the upper right.
Now look at what they sit on. The mountain slopes below are deep slate blue and cool, and the warm sky bears down on them. That contrast between warm and cold is why I made this piece the way I did, and why it holds your eye.

What your eye finds, in the order it finds it
I can't give you a tale about where this valley is or how it came to be, so I'll tell you what is actually in the image. It is built in three layers. Rolling clouds fill the top, a band of jagged ridgelines steps back diagonally toward the right, and an open snowy plain runs across the foreground.
Then there is the building. In the lower left, a red-brown wooden building with a brown metal roof sits alone in the snow. Its angled roof points toward the mountains and pulls your eye along with it. It is the only warm, saturated color in a palette of taupe-gray, slate blue and snow white, and it is small enough that the peaks feel enormous.
Bare shrubs and a small evergreen stand at the lower right, finely detailed against the softer snow. Dark conifers dot the valley and foothills. The surface is painterly and slightly oily, with rippled, brush-like patterning in the sky and snow. It sits somewhere between photograph and painting, and I've listed it as digital art.
What you'll see in the print
- Warm cream and peach light in the clouds and snowfields against cool blue mountain shadow: the scene has real temperature, not just white and gray.
- One rust-red building in the lower left: a single warm accent that gives the vast landscape a human scale.
- Three clear layers of sky, mountains and plain: the picture reads at a glance from across the room and rewards a closer look.
- Ridgelines stepping back diagonally toward the right: your eye travels into the distance rather than stopping at the frame.
- A painterly, slightly oily texture with rippled, brush-like patterning in the sky and snow: a soft, atmospheric finish instead of a literal record.
- Finely detailed foreground shrubs and a small evergreen: sharp points of focus set against the softer snow.
Where it belongs on your wall
The horizontal format suits a wide wall, such as above a sofa, a bed, a console or a desk. The three layers spread across the width and make a calm band of landscape.
The taupe, slate and cream palette sits quietly in a neutral room, and the rust-red building gives the space one small warm accent. The mood is still, remote and expansive, and it suits cold-weather or lodge-style spaces as well.
- This is for you if you want a winter mountain scene with more than plain white and gray.
- This is for you if warm light against cool blue is the kind of contrast you like to live with.
- This is for you if your room is calm and neutral and could use one small rust-red accent.
- This is for you if you like landscapes that sit between photograph and painting, with a soft, painterly surface.

Questions before you choose
What size should I choose for a wide wall?
Fine Art America lets you choose the size on the listing page. I haven't confirmed the largest size the original file supports, so I make no claim about very large prints.
Is this a hand-painted original?
No. It is listed as digital art. The painterly finish places it somewhere between photograph and painting, and the print reproduces that image.
What if it doesn't work in my room?
Fine Art America offers a 30-day money-back guarantee. Prints are made to order and typically ship within a few business days.
Picture it on the wall: warm cloud light spreading across the top of the room, cool blue peaks below it, and one small red-brown building holding the scale of the whole valley.
If that is the picture you want to see every day, go to the Fine Art America listing and choose your print.
